Red Sox Fall To Resilient Phillies, 3-1 As Pomeranz Delivers Decent Start

The bad news is that Drew Pomeranz walked four and hit two batters. The good news is that the lefty went five decent innings—giving up just four hits and two earned runs in the eventual 3-1 loss. It was a mixed bag for sure—but also not the disaster it could have been for Pomeranz and the Boston rotation—now without ace Chris Sale for (at least) the next 10 days. The Red Sox offense was pretty much stymied all night by Phillie starter Jake Arrieta, who worked seven innings and gave up just one earned run—walking none and striking out seven. Xander Bogaerts got the only Boston RBI. The loss coupled with a win by The Evil Ones sets up the coming four-game series with just five games separating the top two clubs in the AL East.
