It's the most runs scored this season by the offensive juggernaut that
is the Boston Red Sox.
The Carmine Hose put up 15 tallies on the hapless Kansas City Royals—although several were off back-up catcher
Drew Butera during mop-up time.
Andrew Benintendi was the Saturday star of this barrage—homering, doubling, walking four times, scoring four times and knocking in two. Did we forget about
Mookie Betts? Boston's lead-off hitter went 4-6, with two runs scored and an RBI.
J.D. Martinez was 2-5, with two runs scored and his MLB-leading 74th RBI.
Xander Bogaerts (2-3) homered and knocked in three, while
Christian Vazquez was 1-4 with 2 RBIs. In fact,
every member of the Red Sox lineup drove in at least one run—even late-inning substitutes
Sandy Leon (2-2, RBI) and
Blake Swihart (1-1, RBI). All of this on a day when
David Price gagged once again—going just 4.1 innings and giving up four earned runs in
the eventual 15-4 win. Amazingly, he struck out nine in that short outing—but also set a franchise record by hitting three batters in one inning. This was a wild one—but Boston maintained its two-game edge on
The Evil Ones in the American League East.
