E-Rod And JBJ Help Red Sox Move To 30 Games Over .500, Sweep Nats, 3-0

Eduardo Rodriguez can be baffling—at times (like today) his stuff is overpowering; other times, he just can't get it done. In this particular Fourth of July start, E-Rod was "independent" of any of the bad stuff—going six strong innings and giving up no earned runs—while striking out six. Until the seventh inning, his teammates had failed to back up his superb effort. Then, after Rafael Devers doubled and Eduardo Nunez singled, Jackie Bradley, Jr. hit a sacrifice fly to open the scoring. A wild pitch followed for the second run. In the ninth, JBJ rose to the occasion again, doubling in Nunez for the final tally in the 3-0 victory. Boston got multi-hit games from: Devers, Nunez, J.D. Martinez and Mookie Betts. The win keeps the Red Sox in first place in the American League East by a full game—as The Evil Ones won again.
