Rookie Sox Starter Gets Smoked, Sox Offense Fizzles, Tigers Take Finale, 7-2

Jalen Beeks will probably want to forget his first inning of MLB pitching. The 24-year-old lefty gave up five earned runs—on the way to his first loss, 7-2. Despite the shelling, the kid seemed to have good stuff and a surly demeanor (always important in a pitcher). Boston's offense was probably not going to offer a lot of support anyway—collecting just seven hits on the night. Andrew Benintendi was pretty much the whole show—clouting his 11th home run and going 2-5. The only other occurrence of note was J.D.Martinez again leaving a game late with back tightness. Keep an eye on this, it could mushroom into another injury malady for the Sox—already missing Mookie Betts and Dustin Pedroia. Tonight, The Pale Hose come to town for a three-game set over the weekend.
