Red Sox Express 'Growing Level Of Concern' With WEEI

Red Sox broadcasting rights are contracted to WEEI through 2023—six baseball seasons from now. And yet, the team seems intent on expressing their "frustration and disappointment" with the seemingly unending on-air controversies swirling around their flagship radio outlet. Red Sox President and CEO Sam Kennedy is the latest to chime in, stating, "We have had a growing level of concern, and we’ve expressed that very clearly to their management, especially over the past year — and in the past week and in the past few days. This pattern of controversial incidents is exhausting, I think, for listeners and fans in general." Is this new "shot across the bow" an indication that the team will try to force a more "vanilla" feel to 'EEI's on-air content? While many of these incidents are disturbing, that kind of de facto censorship would be troubling as well. Let's hope level heads prevail on both sides.
