Sox Sign Carson Smith To 1-Year, Non-Guaranteed Pact

UPDATE: Smith to be paid $850,000.
After previously signing knuckleballer Steven Wright to a one-year deal (although only acknowledging it today), the Red Sox also avoided arbitration with right-handed reliever Carson Smith with a one-year, non-guaranteed contract. Smith missed more than a year to Tommy John surgery, but pitched well down the stretch in 2017. No money terms have been disclosed on either deal. Ten Red Sox players who are eligible for arbitration still remain un-signed—Brock Holt, Xander Bogaerts, Sandy Leon, Christian Vazquez, Mookie BettsJackie Bradley Jr., Joe Kelly, Drew Pomeranz, Eduardo Rodriguez, and Brandon Workman.
