The Red Sox announced on Friday that they have
extended their Player Developments Contracts with two of their six minor-league franchises—the AAA Pawtucket Red Sox and the Single A (short-season) Lowell Spinners. Each of the two New England-based teams will be extended for an additional two years—through the 2020 season. Ironically, the Pawtucket extension comes at a time when the locale of the PawSox franchise is in serious doubt. The team is being wooed by officials in Worcester, Massachusetts—and it's unclear if Rhode Island officials will OK the funding of a proposed new stadium that would keep the AAA affiliate in the nation's smallest state.
