Somewhat out of the blue, the Red Sox named
Tony La Russa as a special assistant to President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski. The relationship between the two MLB veterans goes back more than four decades to their early days in the Chicago White Sox organization. It's believed that La Russa's job will be more along the lines of an advisory role—and
not in the day-to-day operations of the ballclub.
