Carlos Santana May Be First-Base Solution For Red Sox

All the first-base buzz around the Red Sox so far has surrounded Kansas City's Eric Hosmer. However, Boston may be focusing on a little less expensive option at first: Cleveland's Carlos Santana. Multiple reports indicate that Red Sox brass will meet with Santana's representatives this week at the General Managers meetings. Santana is an intriguing possibility—a high OBP guy who also is a terrific defender. While Hosmer won this year's Gold Glove at the position, Santana won the 2017 Wilson Defensive Player of the Year at first base. The 31-year-old Santana hit .259 last year—clouting 23 HRs and driving in 79 in 154 games. He delivered a .363 on-base-percentage and an .818 OPS. He walked 88 times in 667 plate appearances.
