Xander Bogaerts was supposed to get the night off. Then, in the 11th inning, Manager John Farrell called on the SS to pinch-hit. Bogie delivered one of his patented swings to slice an opposite-field hit to right—plating the go-ahead run in an eventual 7-4 win for Boston. After falling behind 3-0, Boston took a 4-3 lead on a RBI single by Andrew Beintendi. Other key offensive contribtutions came from Jackie Bradley, Jr. (3-5, 2 Rs), Hanley Ramirez (2-6, 2 2Bs), and Deven Marrero (2-4, 3 RBIs). Doug Fister, making his second Red Sox start, overcame his early troubles to go five innings—striking out five. Other than a blown save (Heath Hembree), the bulllpen was solid—with Craig Kimbrel notching his 23rd save. Boston maintained its one-game lead in the division.
