Bird Ejections Seen Over Fenway, Red Sox Win, 4-2

The Baltimore Orioles had their starting pitcher and center-fielder ejected from last night's game at Fenway Park—an eventual 4-2 win by the Red Sox. Apparently, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred has his umpires on hair-trigger status—as the offending HBP ejection was based on a 77-MPH curveball. Anyway, Drew Pomeranz overcame an ugly high-pitch count first inning jam, and delivered a solid 5.1 inning performance—giving up just two earned runs. The offense was keyed by emergency 3B Josh Rutledge (in for an injured Marco Hernandez), who knocked in two runs. Dustin Pedroia and Chris Young got the other two RBIs.
