Leon Named Red Sox Opening Day Starting Catcher

Red Sox manager John Farrell today essentially locked in a decision to make Sandy Leon the Opening Day starting catcher—and the receiver for the bulk of the Boston rotation. It appears that Christian Vazquez will be the back-up—and be the primary catcher for knuckleballer Steven Wright. Blake Swihart, who has been red hot this Spring, still has minor league options and will head to Pawtucket. Said Farrell about the Leon decision, "I think I've said many times over that if we're opening tomorrow Sandy Leon is going to be the catcher, and that hasn't changed." Game. Set. Match. Sandy.
