Ex-Sox Reliever Bard Throwing Serious Cheese Again

According to Hall of Fame writer Peter Gammons, former Red Sox set-up guy Daniel Bard is back to throwing near triple digits again in Cardinals camp. After the Boston pitching 'brain trust' essentially ruined Bard by jerking him around between starting and relieving, Bard completely lost his confidence and fell off baseball's radar. This year, St. Louis took a chance on the 31-year old—signing him as a free agent last May. Bard was destined to continue as the 8th inning prelude to Jonathan Papelbon, when everything went south. Despite his troubles, in his five seasons in Boston, he gave up just 193 hits in 257.1 innings pitched. After meandering from the Cubs (2013), to the Rangers (2014), back to the Cubs (2015) and then to the Pirates (2016), he may find a spot in St. Louis. We hope he regains his form and has great success in 2017.
