REPORT: Sox Could Swing Mega-Deal At Winter Meetings

According to The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo, the Red Sox could make one of two mega-deals this coming week during the MLB Winter Meetings at National Harbor, Maryland. The first would be a trade sending some combination of Andrew Benintendi, Yoan Moncada, Jackie Bradley, Jr., Eduardo Rodriguez and Blake Swihart to the White Sox for Chris Sale and José Abreu. The other would ship off some combination of the above and/or Michael Kopech to Detroit for Miguel Cabrera and Justin Verlander. Either trade would do two things: 1.) set-up the Red Sox as immediate World Series contenders for the next few years and 2.) sap the richest young talent pool in baseball in one fell swoop. Of course, Boston would still have a youthful core to build around—but long-term competitiveness would be called into question (and second-guessed for years). Stay tuned!
