Sans-Big Papi, Should Sox Look To Ohtani-San As DH?

(Getty Images)
Pretty much everyone agrees that the 'next big thing' to come out of Japan will be 22-year old Shohei Ohtani. The 6'-4" Ohtani is right-handed pitcher and a left-handed DH. He has excelled at both in the Nippon Professional Baseball League with the Nippon Ham Fighters. Presumably, the kid would be a DH with The Carmine Hose—although that's unclear. It's also unclear whether the Red Sox are still suffering from Dice-K-Itis—shying away from laying out big bucks for a Japanese "pitcher". The kid is young, powerful and extremely talented—we say, lay out some cash for him in the upcoming bidding war. He might be the hitter/hurler that another young Red Sox player turned out to be—a long time ago.
