While the sample size is
extremely small (14 plate appearances), some analysts are already pointing to a troublingly high strikeout rate for
Super Phenom Yoan Moncada.
The Boston Globe's Alex Speier, for example, points out that
Moncada's K-Rate in Double A (30.9%) was way higher than comparable Sox prospects of the past. In fact, only
Will Middlebrooks had even
remotely close numbers at call-up to the big club (22.5% K-Rate at AAA). So far in the majors,
YoMo has fanned six times in those 14 appearances. Of course, jumping two levels is always an issue, and Moncada will have to make adjustments on the fly as the league tries to exploit his vulnerabilities. Chances are, he will adapt and perform at a high level sooner rather than later. But, it's still something to keep an eye on.
