Texas Reliever Cuts Finger On Shards From 'Cheers' Mug
Texas Rangers reliever Jake Diekman may wish he went to the North End and not the famous tourist bar 'Cheers' when he last visited Boston. In fact, the lyrics from the show's theme may be painfully relevant, "Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got." Indeed! While rummaging around in his luggage, Diekman (a lefty) cut his left index finger on a piece of glass from a broken souvenir 'Cheers' beer mug. The mishap has landed him on the 15-day disabled list. The reliever had complied a 2.73 ERA so far in 2016—so this is a pretty big loss for the Rangers. He last pitched on July 5th at Fenway—and the incident apparently happened shortly thereafter. Hey, now, everybody knows his name! Sorry.
