Ervin Santana Pitching Today (Getty Images) |
Multiple sources have reported that
the Red Sox are talking with Minnesota about a trade for starter Ervin Santana. Today, the 33-year old righty turned in another solid performance—going seven innings and giving up just one earned run as he out-dueled Tiger
Justin Verlander. Santana is 3-8 with a 3.93 ERA this season for the woeful Twinkies. Even with the acquisition of
Drew Pomeranz and the recent good start by
Eduardo Rodriguez, the Red Sox
have to be viewing the #5 starter spot as 'up in the air'. Santana—who would not cost a whole lot in terms of top prospects—still has two seasons left on his contract (at $13.5 million per year).
