(Aaron Hill) |
In a move that is
somewhat difficult to understand,
the Red Sox traded for Milwaukee Brewer infielder Aaron Hill. There are a couple of possible reasons for this. First, it calls into question the "pollyanna"-like medical evaluation of
Travis Shaw (although it could also presage a
platoon of Hill and Shaw). Second, since we traded away the most effective of our minor league starting pitchers (
Aaron Wilkerson), it makes it almost a 100% certainty that
Dave Dombrowski will trade for one or two starters (and bullpen help). Hill is a pretty good player—hitting .283 with 8 HRs this year. But, the 34-year old doesn't really fit neatly into any kind of long-term overall strategic plan. Puzzling.
