Despite Flaws, Red Sox Are Hanging In Division Race

As bad as the Red Sox starting rotation is, the rotations of their two main division rivals (the Orioles and Blue Jays) aren't much better. All three will likely look to improve their starting arms at (or before) the July 31st trade deadline. The winner of this battle may indeed have a leg up on the AL East crown. As of this morning, your Carmine Hose sit just two games out of first place—thanks to a five-game skid by The Birds Of Baltimore. After two straight double-digit scoring efforts, the vaunted Boston offense of April and May seems to have returned—not coincidentally with the return of Brock Holt in our opinion. The BrockStar has been a revelation both at the plate and in the field—and imparts an added energy level to this team. All in all, as the Red Sox approach the break, they are well-positioned to make a run—assuming Dave Dombrowski does his job.
