Farrell's Wish List: Left-Handed Bat Off The Sox Bench

(Associated Press)
Clearly, Red Sox manager John Farrell knows where his team's primary weaknesses lie: in the starting rotation and in the bullpen. But, apparently, he is also lobbying Dave Dombrowski to beef up his bench with a left-handed power bat. Since Brock Holt went down with concussion symptoms, the "bench" has been a mix-and-match operation of shuttling minor leaguers and Josh Rutledge—not exactly offering Farrell a range of options. And, while Chris Young has been spectacular in left field, the team could use a lefty to spell him occasionally and also substitute for him late in games. So, the request is in. They will likely need to go outside the organization—so look for a minor trade or a free-agent signing of a lefty hitter who can play the outfield.
