Clay Buchholz pitched seven superb innings and
David Ortiz launched his 509th career HR to send the Red Sox to
a 5-2 win over The Pale Hose. After a shaky first inning, Buchholz ended up yielding just three hits and two runs—while striking out six for his first victory of the year. Ortiz's two-run blast put the Red Sox ahead to stay in the fifth inning, while the DH knocked in another run in the seventh.
Xander Bogaerts was 3-4 with an RBI and
Josh Rutledge was 2-3 with an RBI. The win—coupled with Baltimore's loss to
The Evil Ones—sent Boston back into first place in the AL East.
