There
had been a lot of talk about Boston's elite young catchers being ready for serious competition this Spring. Both
Blake Swihart and
Christian Vazquez appeared healthy and ready to rumble for starting supremacy. Now, however, it looks as if
Vazquez has had a minor setback. Earlier in camp, he experienced some irritation in his throwing elbow—which was scar tissue from his
Tommy John surgery. Since then, Sox brass are ratcheting back his activity some to make sure he will still be ready for
Opening Day. The comforting presence of Andover High School's
Ryan Hanigan on the roster allows the team to be extra careful with Vazquez. Stay tuned.
