Carson Smith Could Be The Steal Of The Off-Season

He might not be Derek Lowe, but the young Seattle pitcher the Red Sox got for Wade Miley today might be as much of a steal in the long run. Carson Smith, a 26-year old right-handed reliever, will likely be in a set-up role in the Boston bullpen—ahead of Junichi Tazawa, Craig Kimbrel and Koji Uehara. Smith has a career ERA of 2.07 over almost 80 major-league innings. Just as important—as RotoWorld.com points out—is the fact that Smith comes with five years of contractual control. In 2015—in addition to his 13 saves—Smith struck out 92 in 70 innings pitched, while walking 22. He gave up just 49 hits and boasted a WHIP of 1.01.
