Ex-Sox Relievers Miller And Melancon Honored By MLB

How painful is this? MLB announced that Andrew Miller (AL) and Mark Melnacon (NL) were presented with the Reliever Of The Year Awards. Just as the Red Sox face the daunting off-season task of completely re-building their bullpen, two former relievers are walking away with 2015 hardware. Miller, of course, was dealt to the Orioles in return for Eduardo Rodriguez (pretty good return, we'd say), while Melancon was sent away to the Pirates for Joel Hanrahan and Brock Holt (half of that worked out very well, also). Nevertheless, the massive void in the Boston relief corps is a big reason for two straight last place finishes. Miller, now with The Evil Ones, had 36 saves this year—and a 2.04 ERA. Melancon lead the majors with 51 saves for the Priates—and logged a 2.23 ERA. Oh, well. Win some, lose some.
