For his first official move as Red Sox President of Baseball Operations,
Dave Dombrowski cut ties with an original Boston property—Justin Masterson. Masterson had been designated for assignment by
Ben Cherington last week, but (conceivably)
could have been re-signed with the club. That, of course, was highly unlikely. Nevertheless, the finality of actually
releasing Masterson is telling. Look for a
lot more action from
"Double D"—and
soon.
