Shaw's Big Night Flies Under Red Sox Radar

Travis Shaw
Travis Shaw started at first base last night for your Boston Red Sox. 'Who?', you may ask. The 25-year old rookie has not exactly been at the top of the franchise's prospect list. In fact, he's currently #16 on the list complied by the authoritative SoxProspects.com. But, when given his chance last night, Shaw went 3-4—and nearly got a fourth hit in the 8th inning on a line drive to the pitcher. In his previous time in The Show, Shaw had been 0-9. So, what happened? Says Shaw, "I’ve hit two or three, four balls hard before and just haven’t had any luck, just hit it right to guys so tonight though, obviously once you get that first one the confidence level goes up." And, he did this on his Dad's 49th birthday—his Dad being former MLB closer Jeff Shaw. With all the heroics of Xander Bogaerts in last night's win, few people remember Shaw's big night. Given the issues surrounding first base, maybe we should be paying more attention. And maybe the kid can get an endorsement deal from Shaw's Supermarkets. After all, their slogan kind of fits him: Shaw's: You're In For Something Fresh!
