'Axe Bat' May Be Key To Pedroia's Resurgence

Dustin Pedroia is having one of the best offensive seasons of his career—including his 2008 MVP season. Much of the reason for his resurgence has been attributed to the fact that he's finally healthy—after suffering hand and wrist injuries in both 2013 and 2014. However, there may be another reason why The Laser Show is lighting up Fenway this year: 'The Axe Bat' by Baden Sports. The what, you say? At the urging of hitting coach Chili Davis, Pedroia is using a funky new type of bat this year, with an "axe-like" curved handle. Supposedly, it lets hitters "transfer more power from the swing to the ball and can control bat position and handle vibration better." Whatever. Here's how Pedey views it: "It just feels good in your hands". If I were John Henry, I'd order up about 50 dozen of those puppies for the rest of the team.
