The Portland Sea Dogs franchise—the AA affiliate of the Boston Red Sox—has been named by
Baseball America as the
Minor League Team Of The Year for 2014. Featuring a
slew of young talent—led by break-out IF/OF
Mookie Betts—the Sea Dogs compiled the best record in franchise history (88-54). In addition to Betts, the Maine squad boasted
Blake Swihart (C),
Henry Owens (SP),
Deven Marrero (SS),
Brian Johnson (SP), and
Travis Shaw (1B). As pointed out by
WEEI.com's Alex Speier (
in a story on the Baseball America site), virtually every one of these players blossomed in 2014. Congratulations to the entire Sea Dog franchise as well as all the players and their great fans.
