If
Jonny Gomes were running the Red Sox, it's pretty safe to assume he would aggressively try to re-sign free-agent
Jon Lester. Gomes, who was traded to the A's along with Lester for
Yoenis Cespedes, thinks
the big lefty's track record puts him ahead of all other free agent starting pitchers. Says Gomes,
"I think he's the top...You go after pedigree...Is there a young guy coming up with a lightening arm and all that? Yeah, absolutely. But when you go after No. 1, you go after pedigree." Hopefully his comments have been heard on Yawkey Way.
