Yaz II? |
Despite earlier reports that Boston had no interest in the player,
the Red Sox did work out Cuban defector Yasmany Tomas at their Dominican Republic baseball academy. According to one report,
"Balls were punished over trees to all fields". The Phillies are generally viewed as the odds-on favorite to sign the power-hitting outfielder—likely to a contract bigger than the $72.5M Boston dished out for
Rusney Castillo. Of course, if they did sign Tomas, they'd have to get permission from the Yastrzemski family to call him "Yaz".
