UPDATE: No surgery
The likely 2014 National League MVP was seriously injured last night when he was hit in the face by an 88-MPH fastball. Giancarlo Stanton was struck by Milwaukee's Mike Fiers and sustained "facial lacerations requiring stitches, multiple facial fractures and dental damage after being struck under his left eye". Stanton was taken off the field by ambulance and underwent X-Rays and CT scans at a local hospital. It's still unclear how extensive his injuries are. Clearly, it's extremely likely that he will miss the remainder of the season.
