Multiple sources are reporting on the possibility of
a "blockbuster" trade between the Red Sox and Phillies that could bring left-handed starter Cole Hamels to Boston in the off-season. Reports suggest that the Phillies have been unusually active in their scouting of
The Carmine Hose—recently covering series in Boston, St. Louis and Anaheim.
Ben Cherington would have to send a bevy of young talent to
The City of Brotherly Love to consummate such a deal—and Hamels would obviously have to be open to coming to Boston. Hamels is signed for the next four years at the relatively "modest" cost of $96 million. Mentioned as possible trade chips are some permutation/combination of
Xander Bogaerts,
Jackie Bradley, Jr.,
Christian Vazquez,
Allen Webster—or maybe even prized lefty starter
Henry Owens. Hold on to your hats!
