Theo Continues Cubs Rebuild With Blockbuster

(PHOTO: ChicagoNow.com)
Theo Epstein's Cub farm system now has three of the top fourteen prospects in all of baseball. This is thanks to a blockbuster trade with the Oakland Athletics that sent starters Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel to the red-hot A's. Oakland owns the best record in the majors and is now poised to run away with the AL West with this upgrade to its rotation. A's GM Billy Beane did have to give up two prime prospects—shortstop Addison Russell and outfielder Billy McKinney—both considered "can't miss" major leaguers. What this means for the Red Sox is that—even if they right their ship and make the playoffs—Oakland will be a much more formidable potential foe. And, the Cubbie team that just embarrassingly swept Boston out of its own "beloved ballpark" is poised to be a lot better a lot sooner.
