Sox Nearly No-No'd By Cubs' Arrieta; Lose, 2-0

Arrieta Starts The 8th (FenwayNation Photo)
For those of us who were there tonight at America's Most Cramped Ballpark (even more cramped when it's 89 degrees at game time), it seemed like it was destined to happen. "It" was a no-hitter by Chicago's slick starter Jake Arrieta (do you think the Orioles would like him back?). Then, the unlikeliest of protagonists—Stephen "Sub-Mendoza Line" Drew—laced a line shot to right with two outs in the eight inning. Of course, Jake Peavy was dealing his most effective start since late April—to no avail. Boston managed just one more hit (a pinch hit ninth-inning single by A.J. Pierzynski) on the way to an ignominious 2-0 loss at the hands of the woeful Cubbies. 'Nuf Ced.
