With Mauer To First, Salty May 'Catch' On In MN

The Minnestoa Twins have announced that their six-time All-Star, Joe Mauer, will permanently move from behind the plate to first base. According to The Globe's Nick Cafardo, this could open up the starting Twinky catching job for Jarrod Saltalamacchia. Apparently, some in the Twins brain trust have liked Salty, which could make the move to sign him an easier one. The Red Sox did not make a qualifying offer to Saltalamacchia, and thus he is pursuing free-agent options with a number of other clubs. Salty is a lifetime .275 hitter against the Minnesota Twins.
