Pedroia Avoids 'Tommy John' Thumb Surgery

(USAToday Photo)
Concerns that Dustin Pedroia's thumb surgery would be more complicated that first thought have proven unfounded. The Muddy Chicken underwent successful ulnar collateral ligament surgery on his thumb—performed by Dr. Donald Sheridan in Scottsdale, Arizona. There were earlier reports that the procedure might be more complex—involving grafting a ligament from his wrist (Tommy John-like)—but this was not necessary. The Laser Show is on-track to start at second base on Opening Day against the Orioles on March 31st.
