The last time the Red Sox hit eight home runs in a game President Jimmy Carter was helping Americans celebrate the Bicentennial Plus One (July 4, 1977). Last night, they did it again. Seven different Carmine Hosers went deep in a BlowoutFest at Fenway, 20-4. David Ortiz went yard twice and collected his 2,000th career hit. Other players who homered were: Stephen Drew, Ryan Lavarnway, Jacoby Ellsbury, Will Middlebrooks (a grand slam), Daniel Nava and Mike Napoli. Twenty of twenty-five total Red Sox baserunners scored. Ryan Dempster was the beneficiary of this lumber largesse—going six innings and giving up four runs. Boston made a statement that they can lay claim to the title of "best team in the American League".
