Jacoby And Will Provide The Thrill; Sox Win, 5-3

(AP Photo/Colin E. Braley)
The Red Sox finally figured out a way to beat the Royals: let your soon-to-be free-agent CF go wild (4 hits) and bring up a legitimate third baseman from AAA (2 for 4, 2 RBIs). Throw in a "Just OK" performance by a starter (4 innings, 3 earned runs) and you get a recipe for a 5-3 victory. That victory—coupled with losses by other AL East contenders—pushed Boston's lead to three full games in the division. Another big star was the Red Sox bullpen—which hurled five shutout innings in relief of Felix Doubront. John Lackey tries to gain a split this afternoon.
