Astros Release Former Sox And NU Star Pena

Carlos Pena's Fenway Walk-Off
With all the flurry around the trading deadline, few people noticed the fact that the Houston Astros (they of the 36 total wins) released Carlos Pena. In 85 games for the AAAA Astros, Pena hit just .208 with 8 HRs and 25 RBIs. He struck out 89 times in 277 ABs. This could be the end of the line for the 35-year old Pena, who played 18 games for his hometown Red Sox in 2006 (hitting .273 with one memorable home run to right field). He has hit 285 HRs in his career and was a standout at Haverhill High School and Northeastern University (3.4 GPA as an engineering major). We wish Carlos the best.
