Brandon Workman made a big statement in his first big league start. The 24-year-old righty carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, giving up his bid for immortality and the lead on a two-run home run in that frame. The game droned on until the 11th when the A's walked-off with a 3-2 win—victimizing new Red Sox reliever Matt Thornton. Dustin Pedroia and Brock Holt were the offensive stars, but it just wasn't enough to give Boston its 59th win. The Red Sox will go into the break with just a 2.5 game lead on the surging Tampa Rays—who pose the biggest threat in the second half. Tampa won 17 of their last 21 games before the break—and have the best record in baseball since May 8th.
