Today was not Ryan Dempster's day. He hurled just three and one-third innings and gave up seven earned runs. However, his misfortune was a great opportunity for Steven Wright. No, not the guy who has his personal seashell collection scattered across the beaches of the Earth. This Steven Wright is the knuckle-balling new guy who pitched 5 2/3 stellar relief innings±—keeping the mariner at bay while Boston stormed back for an 8-7 extra-inning win. Daniel Nava—who had been 0 for 5 to that point—singled home pinch-runner Jackie Bradley, Jr. with the winning run in the tenth. Brock Holt (2 RBI), Jacoby Ellsbury (HR) and Jose Iglesias (2 RBI) had two hits each. Koji Uehara pitched a perfect ninth for his seventh save of 2013. Boston took three of four from Seattle, and now moves on to Oakland for the final three contests before the All-Star Break.
