Theo Looks To Deal For Young Pitching Talent

Theo Epstein is no dummy. He knows his Cubbies are going nowhere in 2013. So, after signing his draft picks and sifting through the international free agent market, Theo will be looking to trade some of the extraneous pieces on his roster for one commodity—young pitching. What he has to offer contending teams is established pitching—or so he'd like you to believe. It starts with Matt Garza, the guy who never fulfilled his potential on the North Side but can still compete when fully healthy. Then there's Kevin Gregg, the obnoxious, yet effective, new closer of the Cubs who might look good finishing games in Boston if Andrew Bailey doesn't figure things out. Scott Feldman is another possibility that might add credibility to the Boston starting pitching staff. If Ben Cherington does go the trade route with his old buddy, he can offer a bevy of young arms. Which ones he dangles in front of Theo will tell a lot about how Ben sees the future of this team.
