The Red Sox plated six runs in the first inning before the Rays'
Alex Cobb recorded an out. Then,
John Lackey opened the floodgates to an eventual 6-6 tie that ended just before 1AM, with
a 10-8 Boston victory.
Daniel Nava drove in the winning run in the 14th, but it was
Jarrod Saltalamacchia who was the offensive hero again—going 4 for 7 with 3 RBIs.
Dustin Pedroia, Nava and
Mike Carp each added two RBIs.
Franklin Morales, who was
supposed to start on Wednesday, went two shutout innings to get the win
tonight. The use of eight pitchers will force Boston to likely pull up
Alfredo Aceves from AAA for the Wednesday start. This was a weird one, but the bottom line is the 40th win of 2013 for the Carmine Hose.
