Sox Polished Off By Diamond's Gem; Lose 6-1

Scott Diamond isn't exactly Randy Johnson out there. In fact, his top fastball barely touches 90 MPH. Nevertheless, the young Twins lefty stymied the Red Sox for seven stunning innings—limiting them to just three hits. In the meantime, Ryan Dempster was nearly as good, yielding just two runs in seven plus innings. A 2-0 game ballooned to 6-1 loss thanks to two errors by Pedro Ciriaco—who had replaced an injured Will Middlebrooks. On a slick sliding play, Middlebrooks collided with catcher David Ross who also left the game hurt. So, in the course of two days, Boston has suffered the injury bug with Andrew Bailey (DL) and Joel Hanrahan (DL) along with Middlebrooks and Ross. Yikes!
