If you're
Jarrod Saltalamacchia, you might want to hold off on that deposit for a new Boston condo. Sure, interest rates are low, but maybe Salty should first check out the interview on
WEEI today with
ESPN's Buster Olney. Appearing on the
Mutt & Merloni Show, Olney hinted strongly that
the Red Sox are not all that happy with the performance of their soon-to-be 28-year old backstop. In fact, Olney suggested that Boston may be looking to
deal Salty before the July 31st trading deadline. Maybe the
"Phantom Umpire's Interference" incident last night has reinforced that view. The Red Sox do have tremendous organizational depth at the catching position—from
Ryan Lavarnway to
Christian Vazquez to
Blake Swihart to
Dan Butler. So, don't be surprised if Mr. Olney's intuition comes to fruition.
