Jose Iglesias Benched For Disciplinary Reasons

Here's some bad news from Rhode Island. No, it's got nothing to do with Curt Schilling's failed video game company. The Pawtucket Red Sox have benched shortstop phenom Jose Iglesias for disciplinary reasons—apparently not running out ground balls. Iglesias is reportedly pouting over the fact that he was demoted to AAA in favor of $10 million man Stephen Drew. This has happened before, and the Red Sox were braced for the kid's hissy fit. He had been successfully checked by the presence of David Ortiz during his Pawtucket rehab assignment, but now all bets are off. Given the depth at shortstop in the Red Sox organization (Xander Bogaerts, Deven Marrero, Jose Vinicio), this incident may make Boston more open to dealing away Iglesias for pitching at the deadline.
