MLB On Schilling PED Comments: 'Case Closed'

Major League Baseball has issued a formal statement on the controversy surrounding comments by Curt Schilling about alleged Red Sox encouragement for him to use PEDs in 2008. The statement reads as follows:

“At the time of the incident in question in 2008, the Boston Red Sox immediately reported the allegations to Major League Baseball as required by our investigative protocols. Once the Red Sox reported the matter, Major League Baseball assumed sole responsibility for the investigation. The Club handled the matter consistent with all MLB rules and requirements and in a manner that was above reproach. Major League Baseball thoroughly investigated the allegations and considers the matter closed.”

Reportedly, MLB exonerated the yet-to-be-named member of the Red Sox organization—who was retained as an employee until just last year. Rumors suggest that the person was simply "joking around" with Schilling. This whole unfortunate incident points up the danger of non-specific allegations that can give off appearances other than intended. Hopefully, the whole silly mess is behind us.
