Early this morning, as dawn broke over the Gulf Coast of Florida, John Dennis of WEEI's Dennis & Callahan Morning Show offered a theory about who leaked anti-Tito information to the Globe's Bob Hohler. Their informed speculation—culled from conversations with those in and out of the Red Sox organization—was that Theo Esptein was the source of the information. You'll recall that the Globe article talked about Terry Francona's marital strife and use of prescription pain medication. Why then would Epstein be treated with kid gloves in Tito's new book? Apparently there's a cardinal rule in baseball that managers never dump on GMs—and vice versa. After all, Tito was without a job at the time and Theo's network of decision-makers is honeycombed throughout baseball. Interesting.
