Lavonne "Pepper" Paire-Davis, the prime inspiration for the movie A League Of Their Own, passed away on Sunday at the age of 88. Paire-Davis was a catcher and a shortstop on five championship teams of the All American Girls Baseball League. She was portrayed by Geena Davis in the film. She said of her time in the league, "Baseball was the thing I had the most fun doing. It was like breathing." Paire-Davis played for the Racine Belles, the Grand Rapids Chicks and the Fort Wayne Daisies. She was a legitimate hero of the sport.
